As the demographics of the United States continue to change and the world continues to get smaller and smaller thanks to technology, people need to change as well in order to survive. While there are many ways to do this, such as becoming technologically savvy and being knowledgeable in multiple areas, teaching children Spanish could really help young people in the long run.
Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world. The fact of the matter is that Spanish is being spoken and used in more and more areas of the United States. Countries in Central and South America, which primarily speak Spanish as their first language, are becoming bigger and bigger players in world affairs, and just as learning English is a must for people in other countries, teaching children Spanish could be a great way to preserve America’s standing in the world.
The reason I say teaching children Spanish is so important is because children typically learn foreign languages quicker than adults. When young people start to learn Spanish, not only will they will have another tool they can use to market themselves to prospective employers, but they will also bridge the communication gap between themselves and other cultures, which is always a good thing.
My nephew started to learn Spanish when he was six years old. He was picking up the language, rolling his ‘R’s and using proper pronunciation within a matter of weeks. By the time he was eight years old, he was practically bilingual, and would often speak to some of the parishioners at our church in Spanish, and even translate for native Spanish speakers to those members of our church that only spoke English. It was an amazing sight to behold — this third-grade student helping two people of two completely different cultures carry on a conversation that they could not have otherwise.
Teaching children Spanish is something I think more and more schools are going to start doing, and I think that is a good thing. One of the countries with whom the United States shares a border speaks Spanish, and it would be wise of Mexicans to learn how to speak English as well. The world is becoming a smaller and smaller place, and I have always believed that if one wants to survive, he or she must adapt.
The school my kids go to has been teaching children Spanish from the time they start first grade onward. I’ve noticed that it has helped them in so many facets of their everyday life, and they are able to enjoy things, culturally, that the rest of us cannot. When I see that happen, it gives me a good feeling.

If you want to be a doctor, a teacher or a lawyer when you grow up,knowing spanish will let you talk to many more people than if you just know english.
